FROM DREAM TO REALITY
FREE INMATE is an interdenominational, social work. The goal is to support and inspire former inmates and their relatives in making a fresh start after their release.
OUR DREAM
FREE INMATE was established in 2023. It came about as the result of a shared vision of a former inmate and participant in a Prison Alpha course, a leader of the Alpha work in one of the prisons in Denmark, a representative from Karlslunde Strandkirke and Alpha Denmark.
FREE INMATE is an extension of the established work of Prison Alpha. The vision for this project is to create a base of active support for former inmates in the form of communities under church auspices, where, in addition to a social network, concrete help is offered in starting afresh – regardless of whether it has been attempted before. This can become a reality in close cooperation with local churches, congregations and church communities. In addition, great emphasis will be placed on mentoring, activities and social events that together help, support and inspire the former inmate to acquire new, healthy lifestyles with the aim of both fully participating in and contributing to the society, that is also theirs.
The foundation of these communities is, at all times, that every person is a whole person with practical, social, psychological and spiritual needs. These needs should be taken care of based on respect for the individual person and his or her situation.
With this in mind, will former inmates and their relatives be supported in the hope of starting afresh, just as they will be supported in the form of positive expectations and the conclusion of concrete agreements to achieve this goal.
FREE INMATE has Karlslunde Strandkirke and Alpha Danmark as close partners with the aim of building bridges between prison, church and society.
The work is currently carried out by volunteers.
